TurboCare Chicopee Operations would like you to join an information session about SMART Turbine seals. This will be an interactive presentation geared to help shop employees answer questions they may have about the function of the products they create. We will also review design initiatives and R&D programs currently going on.
This optional half hour presentation will be hosted by Chicopee Engineering and we hope to answer questions to help you better understand the function of SMART turbine seals. No one understands the physical products better than the employees that actually make them; now we want to expand your knowledge to how they work in operation. Working together we can make quality improvements that ease manufacturing and increase the products performance simultaneously.
I like how the memo is straightforward. The first sentence tells it all. However, I'm not sure if this style will make the employees "want" to attend the presentation! May be if you started with what you concluded the memo with, the recipient of the memo would be more engaged and interested in the offered event.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, Tom!
I am assuming that you have a very technical audience and if that is the case than this would be an engaging communication piece..
ReplyDeleteThis is geared directly for the manufacturing employees so it is a very technical audience and it is an event I will be hosting in the fall. Many of them will read the first sentence and decide right there if they are going or not so I am actually glad you mentioned that Khalid.
ReplyDeleteI do not know if any of you have dealt with manufacturing environments but it can be difficult. Some people want to learn about the products, some are “simply machinist” and will make what they are told. I am working with the operations manager to try and get engineering and manufacturing more engaged to make improvements. This starts with learning on both fronts.
Tom,
ReplyDeleteI find your memo to be very simple and straight to the point. One thing we learned earlier in the semester is to refrain from sending lengthy emails and your statement to employees certainly follows this rule. This shop memo is motivating because it grants employees with the opportunity to learn from the “true professionals” with regards to SMART turbine seals. By attending this short presentation, employees can certainly enhance their knowledge and performance as an employee, thus helping drive the company’s performance. Well done!
Tom, this is a solid, brief memo. Assuming your audience is a no-nonsense crew, this is probably a good approach. A 50-word story about a problem someone had with the gaskets might be useful to help inspire them to care.
