Emerging companies in the global steam turbomachinery market are learning and mimicking our SMART seal technology. To remain as the World leader in after market turbomachinery components we need to continuously improve service response time, quality process, and advanced technology for entire turbine rerates. As we continue to grow our operations, we need to work together as one company with a common goal of providing the best products. We have an extraordinary amount of technical knowledge from years of experience. Groups need to utilize this fact and work together to overcome larger, exciting projects in the future. This ability will allow us to effectively redesign entire turbines and maximize customer efficiency gains opening a unique door in the evolving market.
Good direction here Tom....How will the team members align and collaborate to pool their technical expertise? Can we simplify the message so that all levels of the organization can relate?
ReplyDeleteCan the message provide them direction? What might be some metrics to gauge success?
I think simplification is an underused technique in engineering-heavy companies. Employees of all types need to be aware of the direction the company is headed, but if some people can't wrap their heads around the product they will feel separated from the engineering group, and therefore the message. For example, I don't understand too much about turbines, I'm approaching it from an IT perspective. I instinctively reached for Google on the term turbine rerates. Sending a memo out to an entire company can get tricky in that regard. It can be tough if you try to talk to the lowest common denominator.
ReplyDeleteThe statement contains a lot of good technical feedback to employees such as service response time, quality process etc. Just a thought from me that the message seems to be little negative side. I felt there is no encouragement for past performance or recognization on good points. It might be just my thought so Tom and everybody else please correct me if I am wrong.
ReplyDeleteHussain, I tend to agree a little bit. At work I can be one of those people who needs that "glimmer of hope" factor from the management. A pat on the back goes a long way to keep me motivated.
ReplyDeleteNice concise memo, Tom. You clearly outline action steps and identify both the competitive forces and the challenges your company faces. While concise, it comes across slightly "preachy." How will your workforce respond to this tone?
